The mission of Pride Films & Plays' LezPlay Contest is to enhance the visibility and advance the viability of lesbian-centered stories for stage and screen. To that end, LezPlay honors excellence in storytelling by women-identified writers who present lesbian characters and themes—past, present, and future—in a pivotal, positive way.

We want stories that elevate and celebrate us, refine and redefine us. We want to introduce audiences to writers whose work reflects, resonates with, and is relevant to their lives. We want stories that have a broad appeal, stories that will enable us to reach individuals of all ages and in all stages of life.

We welcome submissions of full-length scripts (up to 120 pages) from May 1 to September 1, 2018, from writers who identify as women. Scripts may be plays, screenplays, or teleplays. Only scripts that have not been professionally produced are eligible. Scripts that have been submitted in the past are eligible for resubmission only once and only if the script has been radically revised.

Scripts will be judged by a panel of industry professionals: directors, artistic directors, filmmakers, playwrights, producers, literary managers.

When submitting, please be sure that there is NO identifying information included anywhere on your script. Scripts that identify the writer on the title page or anywhere else in the document will immediately be disqualified.

Entry fee is $15. Dramatists Guild members may submit one script exempt from the entry fee by using the code DGLP2018 on the payment page.

PFP Network Writers may submit one script exempt from the entry fee by using the code PFPWN2018 on the payment page. Members of the Playwrights' Center may submit one script exempt from the entry fee by using the code PCLP2018 on the payment page.

To make the final deadline, scripts must be received by 11:59 pm Central Time on September 1, 2018.

10 semifinalists, 5 finalists, and 1 winner will be selected from all eligible script entries. The selected scripts will be those that receive the highest recommendation from our reading panel and that best align with the mission of LezPlay. The winner will earn a minimum of four and a maximum of seven days of script development workshops, culminating in a public staged reading at Pride Arts Center in Chicago the weekend of November 17-18, 2018. The top-scoring plays will also be considered for, though not guaranteed, production in a future PFP season.
